Brian is Diné (Navajo) of the Tsé Deeshgizhnii (Rock Gap Clan) born for the Kin Yaa'aanii (Towering House Clan). Originally from Tuba City, Arizona, Brian grew up within Grand Canyon National Park. He worked as a wildland firefighter for the Blue Ridge Hotshots, and today, he advocates for the wildland fire community and the restoration of cultural fire practices.
Brian earned degrees in graphic design from the Art Institute of Phoenix and industrial design and design management from Arizona State University. He owned and operated his freelance design business, Brian Skeet Design, for five years before joining the Grand Canyon Trust.
As the Trust’s graphic designer, Brian amplifies the Trust’s mission by creating designs that are just as impactful as the work being done to protect the land and support its peoples. In his free time, Brian works to deepen diversity, equity, and inclusion within the design industry and reshape “human-centered design” to resonate more with Indigenous communities.
If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.
