The story of the Bears Ears Region near Canyonlands National Park and its surrounding lands is a complex tale of politics, pressures for resource extraction, and protection of ecological and recreational values. It is also about the final frontier of true southwestern wildlands, where adventure awaits and something unimaginable exists at every turn. We are capturing this story through films that will be essential to the work of protecting these places.
In southeastern Utah, the Colorado River flows through deep red rock canyons and forested peaks: this is the wild heart of this special place. It is also the target for development of non-renewable energy resources. This film conveys the critical importance of protecting these lands.
Working with a coalition of artists, filmmakers and photographers, we are bringing the stories of the Greater Canyonlands Region to the screen. Through telling the inside story of the attempt to protect 1.8 million acres of critical watershed lands surrounding Canyonlands National Park, we are creating a coalition of citizens who will stand up in support of these places.
