When Sedona summers have you searching for shade, head to Cave Springs Campground in Oak Creek Canyon. Ponderosa pines tower overhead, and since several sites offer creek access, be sure to pack your swim suits, fishing poles, and water toys! Or, start a pick-up game of Frisbee or football in the open, grassy picnic area.
This is the largest campground in Oak Creek, and while you can see neighbors on both sides of your site, the dense trees offer some privacy. No hookups are available, but Cave Springs can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 36 feet long.
Bring quarters if you want to use the shower house ($4 minimum per shower). And if you forget anything – shampoo, marshmallows, or an air mattress – check the campground convenience store near the entrance. They have a surprising assortment of items for sale.
Spend your days exploring nearby hiking trails, Slide Rock State Park, and Sedona, then return to Cave Springs for a relaxing night. As one of the most popular campgrounds in the area, Cave Springs fills up quickly. A small portion of the sites are available for reservations, but otherwise they’re first come, first served.

From Flagstaff, Arizona, head south on I-17. Take exit 337 to 89A/Oak Creek Canyon and continue for about 13 miles. Slow down and watch for the Cave Springs Campground sign; turn right at the paved driveway.
The jury is split — some say ponderosa pines smell like vanilla. Others say butterscotch. But regardless of your sweet leaning, forests in northern Arizona need our help. Decades of forest supression have led to unnaturally dense stands that are risk of severe wildfire. Learn more about what we're doing to improve the health of ponderosa forests ›
