Thomas is a recent graduate of Whitman College, where he studied environmental humanities, music composition, and biology. Originally from Oregon, he fell in love with the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau during volunteer trips to Black Mesa on the Diné Nation. After volunteering and interning with the Trust in 2016 and 2017, he is excited to be back working to promote biodiversity conservation within the region's remarkable public lands.
A longtime naturalist and science enthusiast, Thomas is particularly interested in birds, butterflies, and bees, and is eager to help study and protect these important plateau pollinators. With the Utah Forests Program, he will be advocating for the protection of fragile habitats and tackling threats from several introduced species, including European honeybees, mountain goats, and cattle on Utah's national forests.
