Aaron Stockel hails from sunny Los Angeles, California, where he was born and raised. As the culmination of a markedly less sunny four years, he graduated from the University of Chicago in 2019 with a degree in imperial history and a minor in astronomy and astrophysics (with a concentration on planetary climate). In the summers between academic years, he worked at a social justice and faith-based community organizing non-governmental organization in Los Angeles and interned at the United Nations Department of Field Support in New York. Aaron has always held a strong reverence for nature and is deeply concerned with the ongoing crisis of anthropogenic climate change — a concern which led him to an internship at the Grand Canyon Trust.
As the climate and energy intern, Aaron’s work at the Trust will center on protecting the Grand Canyon region from uranium mining and helping to develop initiatives to scale up the Trust’s climate action work.
