Zion National Park

Zion National Park is full of colorful vistas, sheer sandstone walls, slot canyons, and lush streams.

Awe-inspiring Zion National Park draws millions of visitors to famed sites like Angel’s Landing, the Zion Narrows, and the Subway. Premier canyoneering exists within the Virgin River and its tributaries, as well as hiking trails that meet all skill levels. While adrenaline seekers flock to Zion for adventure, families, school groups, and tour groups come simply to enjoy the views. Or, head to the Kolob Canyons in the north section of the park for fewer crowds and equally breathtaking scenery.

Visiting the park

Springdale, Utah, ushers visitors into Zion’s incredible landscape of towering cliffs, impressive promontories, and colorful vistas. The south entrance station is along Hwy 9 near the visitor center in Springdale. From spring through fall, you must park your vehicle there and ride the park shuttle bus up Zion Canyon (As of 2021, you must get an advance shuttle ticket to ride the bus along the main Zion Canyon Scenic Drive). You can get off at any of the eight shuttle stops to access Zion's most popular trails. 

If you have extra time or want to escape the crowds, head to the Kolob Canyons. You can access this section of the park via interstate 15, which runs between St. George, Utah, and Salt Lake City. Take exit 40 towards the Kolob Canyons Visitor Center. Learn about the process for obtaining backcountry permits before you head to Zion.
