The U.S. House of Representatives voted Friday to permanently outlaw new uranium mining on about 1 million acres around the Grand Canyon.
The measure has previously been debated in Congress and failed to advance in the Senate in 2019. But with the bill’s passage by the House, the legislation could have better chances with the new balance of power in the Senate and support from the Biden administration.
