Hunter Canyon Campground

Soak in the scenic views at Hunter Canyon Campground outside Moab, Utah

Set up your tent in the shade of cottonwood trees nestled in a sandstone canyon.

Hunter Canyon Campground has awesome campsites, especially if you’re willing to carry your gear a few hundred feet up canyon to the walk-in sites. This campground is located off Kane Creek Road, with tent sites on one side of the road and reservable group site on the other.

The walk-in campsites are spread along the mouth of Hunter Canyon, a tributary that flows into Kane Creek. Here, cottonwood trees shade your tent and you have lots of space between you and your neighbors.

The only amenities this campground has are fire pits and pit toilets.

Note: You must bring your own water, which is available at Lions Park at the intersection of Hwy 191 and UT 128.

Directions to Hunter Campground

From the visitor center in Moab, Utah, drive south on Main Street for about 5 blocks. At the stoplight near McDonald’s, turn right onto Kane Creek Blvd. Veer left at the intersection with 500 W, and continue following the road as it bends left at the Colorado River. The paved road turns to gravel where it climbs the cliff walls at Kane Creek Canyon. Drive cautiously, as the road narrows, and blind curves make it difficult to see oncoming traffic. You descend to the bottom of Kane Creek via switchbacks, and arrive at the mouth of Hunter Canyon at 8 miles. Walk-in campsites are to your left, and campsites with vehicle access are to your right.
