For the National Park Service centennial this year, Flagstaff journalist and author Kevin Fedarko explored the Grand Canyon in a way that few have done before.
Fedarko and photographer Pete McBride spent much of the year hiking the length of Grand Canyon on an assignment for National Geographic to report on the development threats facing the crown jewel of the national park system.
The piece is featured in National Geographic’s September issue and describes a place that is, as Fedarko put it in an interview last week, “facing irreparable damage from a whole host of development threats from every point on the compass.”
