The Colorado River is experiencing the driest period in 1,200 years.
The river and its connected groundwater provide water to 40 million people and 5.5 million acres of agriculture across 30 tribal nations, seven U.S. states, and Mexico. It is vital to the economy, culture, and to all life in the region.
We support:
- Maintaining the health of the Colorado River and its tributaries
- Listening to and following the leadership of the 30 tribal nations in the Colorado River Basin to plan for a more sustainable water future
- Responsible water use and management that protects the Colorado River and groundwater
- Planning to ensure equity for both people and nature as water supplies diminish due to climate change and overuse
We oppose:
- Unsustainable use of water
- Excluding the 30 Colorado River Basin tribes from water decision-making
- Dams on the Little Colorado River or its tributaries
- Drilling new water wells into aquifers that supply springs in the Grand Canyon
