Monument Valley View Hotel & Vendor Village
The View Hotel is a Navajo-owned business located within the Navajo Nation and the Navajo Tribal Park at Monument Valley. Opened in Decemb er 2008, the 90-room hotel is the first to be built inside the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.
The Trust advised the Navajo Tribal Parks and Recreation Department, Oljato Chapter, and Monument Valley Vendors on the development of the Monument Valley Resort and Vendor Village. Our team helped create the project vision, development components, infrastructure requirements, architectural standards, overall layout, criteria for developers, conservation program, and long-term implementation strategy. We also developed the specific financial details for the proposed project and determined the financial feasibility and ground lease potential when the project was first proposed.
In addition to helping with business and financial planning, our program conducted culturally relevant community input and strategic sessions and helped create an overall master plan and business plan. We organized strategic planning sessions for the Oljato and Monument Valley community to design a business plan to ensure a successful start up and sustainable operations of the new Vendor Village. A priority of the community was to include conservation elements that reflected their values. We also helped the project managers secure $2 million for infrastructure costs.
