Actions to further restore natural quiet in Grand Canyon
The National Park Service is currently reviewing comments to its draft plan to “substantially restore natural quiet” to the Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon Trust submitted, with three other organizations, recommendations for improving the plan (PDF, 370 KB). These include dropping conflicting objectives, linking “quiet technology” to absolute noise limits per aircraft, monitoring cumulative noise from high flying aircraft, reducing annual air tour allocation limit and the maximum daily air tour cap, adjusting seasonal route closing dates, and expanding curfews.
NPS is expected to release its Final EIS some time in 2012.
